s4867 A bog oak Cotswold hanging wall cabinet and bookshelf of exposed tenon construction with chipped carving to the edges and an unusual carved rotary double latch to the panelled doors, attributed to Rex Gardner, circa 1920. 104cm (41in) high, 91cm (36in) wide, 24cm (10in) deep. Rex Gardner was an architect and craftsman who worked with Gimson as a young man. He was also a member of the Hampshire House Worshops in Hamersmith where Charles Spooned was director. The provenance of this piece is Mr W G Cruikshank who
worked in Spooner’s office and was secretary of the Hampshire House Workshops. There are several cross-over influences here including those of Romney Green who also worked at the same workshops. The form and the carved rotary double latch appear in a period photograph of a similar cabinet by Gardner.
