This exhibition marks something of a landmark for both artist Gbenga Ilumoka and the Millinery Works Gallery.
For Gbenga 2003 marks a coming of age. With an exhibit accepted into the Mall Gallery's prestigious annual Portrait exhibition, an offer to work on a film of Carravagio paintings in Florence, acceptance into the Prince of Wales drawing school and his first solo exhibition to be held at the Millinery Works Gallery.
With his strong painterly method Gbenga’s technique and style is much admired by a growing number of collectors whenever his work is exhibited and this show gives us a chance to assess his work to date.
For the Millinery Works the show represents the fruition of the policy of staging student summer shows since they opened when Gbenga exhibited in their very first show as a graduating student from the highly regarded City & Islington College access course.
Derek Rothera for the gallery says 'we have very strong links with many students who have participated in the summer shows that we have organised' adding 'it is refreshing to see gifted young artist's passionate about their work being determined to develop and improve their natural talents'
