'As an artist, Pank's
talents found expression in a wide variety of forms; the flaring colour
and bold textures of his nudes in oils; watercolours and chalk drawings of
some of his favourite landscapes, as in his affectionate series of the
south Devon coastline; and delicate pen-and-ink drawings and still-lifes
tapping his detailed knowledge of nature developed since childhood.'
Nicholas Deakin, The Independent, 1991
'He always seemed very
much at home amongst the craggy rocks of Prawle Point
in Devon, where I was fortunate enough to see more of him towards the
end of his life. He loved the place. There was a compulsion about his
energetic, restless drawings which lined the living room at Foss
Cottage...'
'...Although a successful
architect, and an architect whose work grew from a personal but
recognisable vocabulary, I shall always think of him painting in Devon,
the Whatman paper curling under the strains of his paintbrush.'
Professor Adrian Gale, Head of Plymouth School
of Architecture
