THE MILLINERY WORKS GALLERY

ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF Contemporary BRITISH ART JANUARY 2007

Ellen Graubart

    Birdsong Oil on canvas 33 x 27cm 2006

Ellen Graubart is an artist from Virginia, USA, who has lived in London for most of her adult life. She studied art at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art (which was later amalgamated with the Chelsea School of Art) from 1957 - 61, and was awarded a National Diploma in Design (Painting Special). She studied etching at Morley College from 1981 - 84.

From the early 1980’s up to the present, she has had a number of shared and solo exhibitions, including London shows at Lauderdale House (1989), Peirs Feetham Gallery (1991), Hampstead Theatre Gallery (1992) and Honor Oak Gallery (2001 and 2005). During the same period she also showed her coloured etchings in mixed exhibitions with the Greenwich Printmakers and in exhibitions country wide. Her work is in private collections world-wide.

Over the last few years she has concentrated more on painting than printmaking, working to find a language for exploring the relationship between abstract and figurative painting, and trying to build a bridge between the two areas. Large challenging works reflect her acute powers of observation and a ranging imagination.
