HOMAGE TO HEALS  

CELEBRATING HEAL'S BICENTENARY 

9th to 27th June 2010

 

 

1. s5048c An important ‘Fine Feathers’ oak wardrobe inlaid with pewter & ebony bearing the motto “Fine Feathers Make Fine Birds” labelled, circa 1898, 168cm (66in) high, 191cm (75in) wide, 56cm (22in) deep.

2. s5057 A ‘Fine Feathers’ oak double bed, the slats inlaid with pewter & ebony, labelled, circa 1898, 166cm (65.5in) max height, 146cm (57.5in) max width to take a mattress 137cm (54in) long 146cm (57.5in) wide. The headboard is designed to take a curtain.
3. sroh501 A three door wardrobe with dentil cornice and mirrored central door flanked by two dowelled and panelled doors above two drawers all with hammered steel handles and the whole on six acorn feet, the interior consisting of three shelves above three drawers in the centre, flanked by two hanging spaces, circa 1898, 193cm (76in) high, 188cm (74in) wide, 58.5cm (23in) deep.

4. sroh502 An oak dressing table with large mirror, two jewellery drawers above four drawers with hammered steel handles, on column legs with moulded edge and dentil cornice, circa 1898, 150cm (59in) high, 122cm (48in) wide, 56cm (22in) deep. Picture opposite.

 

5.sroh503 A double three-tier towel rail with moulded frame, circa 1898, 85cm (33.5in) high, 71cm (28in) wide, 28cm (11in) deep. Picture opposite.

6. srsh504 An oak Arts & Crafts ‘Chelsea’ wardrobe with dentil cornice, 
hammered steel hinges and handle, arched mirror to centre door and raised chamfered panels to the sides, designed by Ambrose Heal in 1897, 194cm (76.5in) high, 178cm (70in) wide, 62cm (24.5in) deep.
7. s4500 An oak double bed with slatted ends and shaped top to the head and base, labelled, circa1905, 122cm (48in) high, 137cm (54in) wide 193cm (79in) long.
8. srh505 A duodecimal oak centre table with inlaid macassar ebony star and cross-banding to the top, on eight chamfered and tapering legs, designed by Ambrose Heal for Heals, see Paris Exhibition 1901, 76cm (30in) high, 106.5cm (42in) long, 75cm (28.5in) wide.

9.. s5148  A pair of oak rush-seated wavy ladder-back arm chairs, circa 1897, shown as no: 918 in the early Heal’s catalogues. Ambrose Heal had some of these in his own collection, 104cm (41in) high.

10. s5167 An oak Letchworth dresser with rack, circa 1905, 174cm (68.5in)high, 
139cm (55in) wide,46cm (18in) deep.
