1. An Arts & Crafts oak linen press comprising two doors above two small drawers, one long drawer and fall front shoe compartment on shaped legs and with hammered steel handles and hinges, designed by C R Ashbee, made by The Guild of Handicraft, circa 1905. Illustrated ‘Der Moderne Stil The Modern Style’ by Julius Hoffmann Jnr, page 116, Fig.3. Note the influence Ashbee’s design had on Ambrose Heal. 204cms (80.5ins) high, 119cms (46.75ins) wide and 65cms (25.5ins) deep. 

 

 

2. A pair of Arts & Crafts dark stained oak chairs each with an upholstered seat, a shaped back slat to the curved top and low stretchers to the floor, the design attributed to Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott. See page 18 ‘Baillie Scott The Artistic House’ by Diane Haigh for similar. Circa 1900, 105cm (41.5in) high. 

 

 

3. An oak Arts & Crafts sideboard with copper strap hinges and bottle-eye glazing to the central door probably designed by Leonard Wyburd for Liberty & Co. Circa 1900. See page 57 The Liberty Style by Victor Arwas and others.180cms (71ins) high, 190cms (75ins) wide and 63cms (24.75ins) deep.

 

 

 

4.  A walnut and inlaid Arts & Crafts two tier occasional table with inlaid stylised flower decoration to the pierced legs, attributed to Liberty & Co. 70cm (27.5) high 61cm (24) wide, 60cm, (23.75) deep

5. A chestnut Arts & Crafts ‘Letchworth’ dresser with display rack above two doors designed by Ambrose Heal for Heal & Son, circa 1904. 169.5cms (66.75ins)  high, 137cms (54ins) wide, 48cms (19ins) deep. Illustrated page 105 ‘Good Citizen’s Furniture’ by Annette Carruthers and Mary Greenstead, also in ‘The Studio’ 1904. 

This piece was exhibited at the V&A ‘International Arts and Crafts Exhibition’ in London in 2005 and in Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Museums, San Francisco de Young in 2006 and illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, page 6

 

 

 

 

6. A pair of oak American Arts & Crafts ladder-back chairs with exposed pegged construction with upholstered leather seats by L & J G Stickey Circa 1910. Note the influence Baillie Scott and Ambrose Heal had on the Stickley Brothers design.

 

7. An oak Cotswold Style sideboard with three drawers above three cupboards designed by Ambrose Heal for Heal & Son. Labelled. Circa 1925. 84cms (37ins)  high, 137cms (54ins) wide, 47cms (18ins) deep.
