7. A cherry mahogany queen size bed with wide reeded head and foot board, the headboard with integral opaque glass-fronted lights, designed by Betty Joel for Token Hand Made Furniture, circa 1930. 116cm (45.5) high, 123cm (48.5) wide, 213 (84) deep. Illustrated Plate 23 Betty Joel ‘Celtic Spirit of the Orient’ Ray Foulk.

 

 

8. A chest in cherry mahogany comprising three short above four graduated drawers with exposed dowel construction, raised step-carved handles. The label reads: ‘Designed by Betty Joel made by C Hall for Betty Joel Handmade Furniture, Token Works’, circa 1930. 44.25in (112.5cm) high, 38in (96.5cm) wide and 19in (48cm) deep. Stepped handles, first shown at the 1927 Ideal Home Exhibition, were very well received, according to Betty Joel.

 

9. A Queensland silky oak three drawer side table of exposed dowel construction with moulded decoration to the legs, and step-carved handles. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: W. Williams at Token Works 1929. Portsmouth’ 81cm (32in) high, 141cm (55.5in) wide, 65cm (25.5in) deep.

 

 

 

10. A Queensland silky oak dining table with fluted column legs on sleigh feet to either end and with stepped and canted edge to the top and exposed dowelled construction. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: W. Kemp at Token Works 1931. Portsmouth’. 76cm (30in) high, 79.5cm (31.25in) wide, 187cm (73.5in) long. Illustrated Page 6 Betty Joel ‘Celtic Spirit of the Orient’ Ray Foulk.

 

 

11. A harlequin set of eight Queensland silky oak chairs with exposed dowel construction upholstered to the backs and seats in black linen, designed by Betty Joel for Token Handmade Furniture, circa 1930. The set comprises two arms 84cm (33in) high, 4 arms 81.5cm (32in) high and 2 sides 83cm (32.75in) high. Illustrated 103 ‘The Adventure of British Furniture’ David Joel.

 

 

 

12. A Queensland silky oak two door drinks cabinet of exposed dowel construction with alternating cross banding to the doors and round chrome handles standing on fluted feet, the hinged top revealing mirrored and plated-glass pouring area. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: C. Kemp at Token Works 8 June 1934. Portsmouth’. 76cm (30in) high, 107cm (42in) wide, 52cm (20.5in) deep.

 

 

 

13. An Australian walnut table mirror with moulded base, angled waterfall-shaped side supports and Odeon-shaped bevelled mirror, designed by Betty Joel for Token Hand Made Furniture, circa 1930. 65cm (25.5in) high, 61cm (24in) wide, 20.5 (8in) deep.
