14. A cherry mahogany fall front bureau of exposed dowel construction on a stand with one drawer, the asymmetric fitted interior has three drawers, divisions and pigeon holes and original faded green leather inset to the fall. All the drawers have step-carved handles. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: W. Alder at Token Works 1930. Portsmouth’. 117cm (46in) high, 102cm (40in) wide, 46cm (18in) deep

 

 

15. A cherry mahogany two door drinks cabinet on chest of exposed dowel construction with alternating cross banding to the doors and sides, inset plate glass top, plate glass shelving and drinks slide. The chest has four graduated drawers with step-carved handles and moulded corners, the whole standing on fluted feet. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: J G Marsden at Token Works 1932. Portsmouth’. 142.5cm (56in) high, 72.5cm (28.5in) wide, 45cm (17.75in) deep. 16. An Australian walnut free standing demi-lune three legged side table with moulded edge. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture, designed by Betty Joel, made by W. Perkins at Token Works 1931. Portsmouth’. 41cm (16in) high, 64cm (25in) wide, 46cm (18in) deep.

17. A Rosewood free standing demi-lune three legged side table with moulded edge. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel, made by: W. Perkins & E O Miller at Token Works, Kingston-by-Pass. September 1935.’ 55cm (21.5in) high, 72cm (28.25in) wide, 46cm (18in) deep.

18. A cherry mahogany free standing demi-lune three legged side table with moulded edge. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by: Betty Joel made by: F Roberts at Token Works 1930. Portsmouth’. 43cm (17in) high, 64cm (25.25in) wide, 46cm (18in) deep. Illustrated Plate 28 Betty Joel ‘Celtic Spirit of the Orient’ Ray Foulk.

 

 

 

19. English sycamore three stepped bookshelves including an arrangement of six drawers with turned, stepped ivory handles and with reeded Australian walnut feet, the top and sides having exposed dovetail construction. Label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture designed by Betty Joel, made by J Emery, Token Works 1932. Portsmouth. 75cm (29.5in) high, 74cm (29.25in) wide, 29cm (11.5in) deep.

 

 

 

20. A Queensland silky oak D-shaped kneehole desk with four graduated drawers to each pedestal and curved central drawer, with carved shell shaped handles in walnut and leather inset to the top, numbered 4295, circa 1930. 77cm (30.5in) high, 91.5cm (36in) wide, 54.5cm (21.25in) deep.

 

 

 

21. A Queensland silky oak square top coffee table of exposed dowel construction with moulded, rounded corners. The label reads: ‘Token Hand Made Furniture, designed by: Betty Joel, made by: J. Derben at Token Works, June 1934. Portsmouth’. 36cm (14in) high, 69cm (27in) wide, 69cm (27in) deep.
