Exhibit 1 

An ebonised oak‘Glastonbury’ armchair with carving to the back and arms containing Latin inscriptions, circa 1840.

Exhibit 2

A stained oak hall chair with cabriole legs to the front, the back of the chair has carved leaf and quatrefoil decoration in the manner of Lewis Nockalls Cottingham, circa 1840. This is an interesting transitional piece the type of design that Pugin railed against in his book True Principles 1841 for being historically incorrect. Height 41.5ins (105.5cms)

Exhibit 3

An oak three-drawer writing table with raised gallery, pegged joint construction and brass drop handles designed by A W N Pugin, circa 1850, (gallery restored). See page 22 ‘Truth, Beauty and Design’, catalogue by A J Tilbrook and Fischer Fine Art 1986. Height 34.75ins (88cms) width 36ins (91.5cms) depth 29.75ins (52.5cms).

Exhibit 4

An architectural four-door oak wardrobe with carved linen fold panels to the doors, carved fleur-de-lys to the crockets, the upper door panels having a carved central rose motif and the central doors enclosing trays and drawers and with foliate decoration to the brass hinges, handles and escutcheons, attributed designer A W N Pugin, attributed maker J D Crace, circa 1850, (the crockets restored). The metalwork is by John Hardman & Co. Similar furniture can be found in the Palace of Westminster. Height 97.5ins (248cms) width 90.5ins (230cms) depth 22.75ins (58cms).

A pitch pine two drawer writing table with gallery, brass handles and pegged stretcher after a design by A W N Pugin, circa 1860. Height 36ins (91.5cms) width 30ins (76cms) depth 21ins (53.5cms).

Exhibit 6

An oak ‘House of Lords’ chair with chamfered octagonal legs and stretchers designed by A W N Pugin, upholstered with hand hold to the back, circa 1850. Height 35ins (89cms).

Exhibit 7

A three-tier oak buffet with chamfered styles on castors in the manner of A W N Pugin, circa 1855.
Height 38ins (97cms) width 48ins (122cms) depth 19.5ins (49.5cms).
