S4145 A solid walnut Cotswold Style draftsman’s bureau bookcase having ebony and holly stringing throughout, the lower section with slide and drawer above raised fielded panel doors, the fall and sides with raised fielded panels and the interior with two raised fielded panel doors and four drawers, the upper section with diamond astragal glazed doors and the whole standing on shaped sledge feet, in the manner of Ernest Gimson, continental, circa 1910

S4161 A pair of Cotswold Style small oak bookcases with glazed doors and 
silver crescent shaped handles to the upper section with raised fielded panels to the lower doors and exposed dovetail construction, designed by Ernest Gimson for Robert Weir Schultz, The Barn, Hartley Wintney, (Restored to original condition), circa 1905. 

Provenance: the collection of Robert Weir Schultz,, The Barn, Hartley Wintney. These bookcases are shown in a photograph of 1911 at the Barn where they had been joined back-to-back. The handles, designed by Ernest Gimson, were made for him by John Paul Cooper.

S4347 A Cotswold Style oak breakfront bookcase/display cabinet, the upper section enclosed by four bar glazed doors with arched upper panes, the base with three raised panel drawers above four twin panel doors on a plinth base, with numerous exposed joints, the whole fitted with twelve decorative brass handles, designed and made by Malcolm Corrie Powell in the workshops of Ernest Gimson and Sidney Barnsley. 

Circa 1902.

Malcolm Powell (1863 - 1913) worked with Gimson and with Sidney Barnsley at both Pinbury and Sapperton, between 1902 and 1904. After working with Barnsley he appears to have worked on his own from Oakridge Farm. This bookcase stood at the entrance to his nephew Roger Powell’s bindery and contained the family books, archive and bound letters.

S4210a ACotswold Style oak three section breakfront bookcase on a base with octagonal bung feet, the two outside sections glazed and the central two door section having fielded panels with chip carving and enclosing a shelf and eight drawers, the top frieze with carved geometric decoration, signed with carved monogram SD (Stanley Webb Davies) and AB, dated 1925.

This is an early piece by Stanley Davies who trained with Arthur Romney Green before setting up on his own in the Lake District.
