s5648 A set of six (four side two arms) ash 'Clisset' low back ladder-back chairs, designed by Ernest Gimson, circa 1925, more recently re rushed, 89cm (35in) maximum height.

 

s5465 An unusual set of eight oak lattice back dining chairs, six sides, two arms, with drop-in seats recovered in linen, designed by Ambrose Heal for Heal & Son, labelled, circa 1920, 95cm (37.5in) high, seat 46cm (18in) high, carver 56cm (22in) wide.
   

      

 

 

s5574 A set of 6 extremely fine Cotswold dining chairs, 2 carvers & 4 sides, in English walnut designed by Ernest Gimson and made by Peter Waals circa 1920-1920 having the tell-tale chequered barber's pole inlay in ebony & holly that is very much associated with the work of Gimson & Waals and this period. The chairs have exposed-tenon construction to the tops and arms and the backs are finely chamfered in a slight curved form. The drop-in seats have been recovered at some stage. There is a drawing by Ernest Gimson of a chair of this design in the Cheltenham Museum dated 1909, they also have a set in their collection. In addition there is a 1901 photograph on a similar side & arm chair in Pevsner's 'Pioneers of Modern Design'

S3904 Two from a set of 4 mahogany Gothic Reform chairs inlaid with pitch pine, the ball finials with carved quatrefoils and quatrefoil brackets to the legs, the seats and backs upholstered in red leather, circa 1865.

These chairs show the influence of E W Godwin’s design for chairs in Northampton Town Hall.
