s5017 A dark stained oak Glasgow two-seater settee with stylised cut-outs to the shaped, moulded sides, attributed to E A Taylor, for Wylie & Lochhead, circa 1900., 85cm (33.5in) high, 102cm (40in) wide, 56cm (22in) maximum depth.

 

               

 

s5584 An oak reclining armchair with stylised tulip slats and upholstered seat and buttoned cushion to the back by Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple, circa 1900, 110cm (43.5in) high, 67.5cm (26.5in) wide, 92cm (36in) deep.

 

 

As5361 n imposing oak and ebony inlaid barrel chair with slatted sides and shaped top rail, the outside slats inlaid with stylised long-stemmed flower, the inside and front edge similarly inlaid but also with a geometric motif, attributed to Baillie Scott, circa 1900. 103cm (40.5in) high. .The drop-in upholstered seat has been renewed. The scale of this chair is unusually large. A similar chair appears in Pyghtle Works catalogue as well as in The Studio 1898, for the Grand Duke of Hesse’s Palace in Darmstadt. Baillie Scott designed barrel chairs for various houses in Germany and Switzerland. See M H Baillie Scott and the Arts & Crafts Movement by J D Kornwolf p. 166. The barrel chair form is based on a design by Edward Burne Jones for the William Morris tapestry of ‘Arthur and the Holy Grail’ of 1896 of which Baillie Scott was aware. C R Ashbee’s Guild of Handicraft made the furniture for Baillie Scott’s commissions of this period as well as for the Grand Duke’s Palace, see The Houses and Gardens of M H Baillie Scott by Ian Macdonald-Smith, p90. Attributed maker The Guild of Handicraft.

s5364 A rare Arts & Crafts three-piece suite comprising a two-seater sofa and two armchairs with carved stylised leaf decoration to the frieze on the oak frame having sloping backs with shaped tops, attributed to Liberty & Co, circa 1900. Now upholstered in linen, the original fabric was Liberty’s Ianthe. 102cm (40in) high, 75cm (29.5in) deep, settee 152cm (52in) wide, chair 81cm (32in) wide.

 

 

s5447 A Liberty’s ‘Athelstan’ armchair in oak with splay arms and drop in original rush seat, circa 1900, illustrated in Liberty’s catalogue 1899. 211cm (83in) high, 114cm (45in) wide, 53cm (21in) deep.

 

 

s5514 An ebonised mahogany Aesthetic Movement reclining and folding Steamer armchair with patterned cane seat and back and with detachable armrests, in the manner of E W Godwin, circa 1880. Godwin designed a small folding Steamer chair and seemed to have had an interest in them. See Susan Soros The Secular Furniture of E W Godwin, pg 97. 102cm (40in) high, 82cm (32in) wide, 92cm (36in) deep.

 

 

srvs5329 A rare pair of oak Liberty style settees with incordate and teardrop cutouts to the back splats, probably made by William Birch of High Wycombe, re-made cushions covered in linen, circa 1900. 84cm (33in) high, 183cm (72in) wide, 44cm (17.5in) deep. Sold

 

 

 

s2406 A decorated and gilt Moorish armchair, with musharabiyeh turnings, attributed to Liberty, circa 1895. 115cm (45in) high, 59cm (23in) wide.

s3445 George Walton (in the manner of): an Arts & Crafts architectural mahogany upholstered settle with integral cupboards to the sides, glazed display case with colour glass of a swag of Glasgow Style roses above and brass repoussé panels of stylised leaves to the cupboard doors and to the back which has three mirrors, possibly for a Kodak Eastman European outlet. 221cm 85(in) high, 216cm (87in) wide,74 cm (29in) deep circa 1900.

JS3231 E W Godwin (attributed designer): a mahogany Salon suite comprising sofa and four side chairs, manufacture attributed to James Peddle, circa 1870. (Similar illustrated in the Fine Art Society 125th anniversary catalogue No.63). Chair 33ins (84cm) high, Sofa 36ins (92cm) high,  48ins (122cm) wide 22ins (56cm) deep.
