FINE COTSWOLD dining table

The Millinery Works

srmlaf01

Ernest Gimson (1864 - 1919) A very fine, oak, Cotswold School dining table, moulded edge to table top, chamfered apron with bracket supports, dowel construction, octagonal faceted and square section legs joined by faceted chamfered and carved hay-rake and wishbone stretcher of dowel and through tenon construction, designed by Ernest Gimson, made at his Sapperton Workshop, circa 1910, 74cm (29in) high, 145cm (58.5in) long, 80cm (31.5in) wide. There is a design, dated Oct.16.1908 for a similar table in the Gimson archive in Cheltenham Art Gallery Museum. The top of this table is made out of two 16" wide boards which suggests an early piece from the Sapperton Workshop. Tables made after 1920 have narrower boards.
