Geri Morgan studied at Camberwell under the tutorship of the renowned Victor Pasmore, working initially as a figurative painter, before going on to develop more abstract ideas. There is a continuity in the treatment of the art space in his paintings, whether figurative or still life. They operate as vivid and carefully laid out planes of colour, that leave an impression of a very still and quiet space, imbued by a clear white light; they have a permanence about them.
The works in our collection span the the Still Life and Figurative genre, and pieces such as "Big Chair" appear to directly explore the relationship between objects and the figurative. While he was quite a bit older than Euan Uglow, they were very close with one another throughout their lives; when looking at their works alongside one another, each can illuminate on the other.
