Steven Newell

Steven Newell earned his BFA degree in Ceramics and Glass in 1972 at Carnegie-Mellon University, going on to be offered a place at the Royal College of Art, London in that same year. After winning his first internationally acclaimed prize, the Coburg Glaspreis, in 1977, he continued to be driving and dynamic presence in the the ceramic and glass art scene. His works can be divided along two strains of process; repeatable items that work in the forms of functional household objects, and one-off items, bringing the focus to figures and scenes etched to their surface.

We have a selection of Steven Newell's pieces in our collection, which can be seen in our current exhibition In Situ. His work is also held in the public collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan.
