Peter Waals (1870 - 1937) A fine, Cotswold, walnut extending dining table, one drop-in leaf, stepped edge to the top with ebony and holly inlaid stringing, reeded apron, on octagonal cross section legs with elongated chip carving, hayrake stretcher with chamfering and dowel and through tenon construction, designed and made by Peter Waals, circa 1925. 76cm (30in) high, 99cm (39in) wide, 157cm (62in) long, 229cm (90in) long, extended. Peter van der Waals was the foreman and chief cabinet maker for Ernest Gimson at Daneway, Cirencester. He opened his own workshop in 1920 at Chalford, near Stroud.
