Dick Russell for Gordon Russell Ltd, an oak matching bedside cupboard and chest of drawers, hand-cut dovetail and fielded panel construction to the drawers, turned laburnum handles, on plinth base, designed by Dick Russell for Gordon Russell Ltd, from the 'Thirty four' range of bedroom furniture, circa 1935, each 69cm (27in) high, 46cm (18in) wide, 45cm (17.75in) deep. Richard 'Dick' Russell (1903 - 1983), Gordon's youngest brother, trained at the Architectural Association and then joined the family firm, most famously designing the cabinets for Murphy radios from 1932 and the chairs for Coventry Cathedral in 1960. Appointed Professor of Wood, Metals and Plastics in the School of Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art in 1948.
