MCKAY HUGH BAILLIE SCOTT (1865 - 1945) :

A rare and important pair of Arts & Crafts oak armchairs with shaped seat, plank back and chamfered curved arms, circa 1905, 83cm (32.5in) high, 68cm (26.75in) wide, 51cm (20in) deep. A pair of the same design was exhibited at the Heirat & Hausrat Exhibition in Dresden in 1903. Inlaid versions are shown in James D Kornwalf M H Baillie Scott and The Arts & Crafts Movement p 328 fig 157 and p 329 fig 158 and an inlaid version is in the MoMA Collection in New York. M H Baillie Scott was one of the leading British Arts & Crafts Designers together with CFA Voysey & C R Mackintosh. SOLD
