A set of eight W R Lethaby oak, Arts & Crafts dining chairs of dowel construction with flared back supports, moulded top rail, two tapering slats with reeded edges within arched and incised frame, square section front legs to flared feet, H stretcher, upholstered and drop-in, stuff-over seats, circa 1900, 98cm (38.5in) high.

William Richard Lethaby (1857 - 1931) was an architect, designer and teacher, founder of the Central School of Atys & Crafts. An imposing, earlier, version of this chair was made for the Master of The Art Workers' Guild. Both Morris & Co and Liberty's sold versions of this Lethaby design.
