An Edward Barnsley (1900 - 1987) oak Cotswold fall-front bureau, moulded beading edge, exposed variegated dovetail and wedged through tenon construction, bolection moulding edge to the fall-front of three panels, the centre one with octagonal raised fielded panel on rectangular raised fielded panel on rectangular raised fielded panels, between rectangular raised fielded panels, over two short drawers each with a raised panel, turned rosewood handles, moulded waist, on tapering, square section legs and chamfered stretchers, fitted interior of pigeon holes in sycamore, leather inset, circa 1950, 109cm (43in) high, 76.5cm (30in) wide, 34cm (13.5in) max deep. Schooled at Bedales, apprenticed to Geoffrey Luppton, a former apprentice to Ernest Gimson, opened his workshop in 1923.
