An Ernest Gimson designed sweet chestnut chest of drawers

The Millinery Works

s6604

A rare and finely figured Cotswold, sweet chestnut chest of drawers, two short above three long drawers, single width planks with exposed dovetails, wedged tenon construction to the top and sides, panelled back, bracket feet with through tenons, moulding to the frame and to the drawers, with brown oak ‘nip’ handles within oval insets and ebony escutcheons. The fine dovetails to the drawers suggest one of the English-trained cabinet makers employed by Ernest Gimson in the early years, possibly Henry Davoll, circa 1905, 91.5cm (36in) high, 114cm (45in) wide, 50cm (20in) deep.
